The U’s are looking to build a new home at The Triangle, south of Kidlington Roundabout, as the club’s licence agreement at the Kassam Stadium runs out in 2026.
United have plans for a 16,000-capacity stadium and complex, which is set to include a 180-bedroom hotel, restaurant and conference centre.
The club has this morning announced how much safe standing there will be at the ground, plus the number of wheelchair positions there will be.
A club statement read: “We have incorporated rail seating into 25 per cent of the stadium bowl to provide a safe solution to fans who want to stand during a match.
“The stadium bowl design will help enhance the atmosphere inside the venue, and to also minimise noise and light spill.”
Setting the bar for accessibility in UK stadium design is another goal shared by the U’s.
The statement went on, “A raised platform would be included in the south-west corner to create a space for wheelchair users, as well as their family and friends, to use the same concourse and sit together with elevated pitch views.”
“The west stand’s wheelchair access and viewing areas would provide fantastic views of the pitch and a far higher percentage of accessible seating options than those found in the majority of UK stadiums today.
“We have increased the number of wheelchair positions within the seating bowl to more than 130, nearly three times the amount currently available at the Kassam Stadium.”
United, who are still finalising a planning application to Cherwell District Council, also confirmed significant details which have already been published during earlier consultation exercises.
For example, the club estimates that about 1,000 jobs will be created during the construction phase and once the stadium is open, including 420 construction jobs and at least 20 apprenticeships.
The U’s also calculate that more than £32 million will be generated per year in the local economy if the stadium is built.
