Oxford man indicted in Hamilton cat cruelty case; grand jury ignores B&E charge..

A Butler County grand jury indicted Bai last week on one count of fifth-degree felony cruelty to a companion animal. The grand jury decided against filing a breaking and entering indictment.

An Oxford man has been indicted for felony animal cruelty in a Hamilton case that resulted in grave injuries to a cat that later was euthanized.

Zhean Bai, 27, was arrested Feb. 6 at his residence at Oxford West Apartments on Ogden Court and charged with prohibitions concerning companion animals, and breaking and entering, both fifth-degree felonies.

Judge Keith Spaeth of the Butler County Common Pleas Court maintained the $50,000 bond when Bai was arraigned on March 14. On April 11, he is expected to return to court for a pretrial hearing.

Bai was apprehended following a tip from a concerned citizen, one day after the sheriff’s office had announced a $250 reward for information leading to the name of a suspect in the crime that happened on January 24.

In an attempt to identify a guy who appears to catch a cat at a Hamilton apartment complex and then crush it to the ground, seriously injuring the animal, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office turned to social media.

The incident took place at the Indian Springs apartments on Hampshire Drive around 9 p.m. on January 24. Deputy dog wardens discovered the injured cat behind the complex and had to put it to death.
