Peterborough man jailed for eight years following terrifying robbery

A man who robbed a party goer in Millfield last year has been jailed for more than eight years.

John Hunt was jailed today after being found guilty of the terrifying attack.

But police are still trying to find his accomplice – and have launched a new appeal for information.

Cambridge Crown Court heard that on September 30, 2017, about 5.30 a.m., reaction officers were dispatched to Century Square, Millfield, in response to reports of a robbery. They discovered the victim, a guy in his 40s, outside a block of flats. He informed authorities that two men had ambushed him on his way home from a party.

They hit him in the face and head, then snatched his watch, mobile phone, bank card, insurance card, and several smokes while holding something sharp to his throat.
Officers identified Hunt, 33, as one of the suspects after analysing CCTV footage of the event, and he was arrested on October 3 by the Acquisitive Crime Team (ACT).

Hunt, of Westerley Close, Westwood, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court today (24 May) where he was sentenced to eight years and nine weeks after previously being found guilty of robbery.

DC Guiste, who investigated, stated, “Robberies can be extremely frightening for victims, and I’d like to commend the victim for his bravery and cooperation with the investigation.”

“We were able to quickly apprehend Hunt and bring him before the courts thanks to early collaboration among the attending officers and individuals who identified him via CCTV.

“The second man remains unidentified, therefore I would like to appeal to the public to get in touch if they have any information as to who he is.”

Anyone with information can contact the police online or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
