6 Plymouth Argyle players who will sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere in January’

There are six Plymouth players set to enter the final six months of their contracts

Plymouth Argyle enjoyed a very busy summer after their League One title win.

There were a couple of returning faces, most notably Morgan Whittaker and Bali Mumba, with Finn Azaz being loaned in once again too.

Argyle may aim to strengthen again in January, but there could also be outgoings.

Expiring contracts can have an impact on winter window decision-making, not least because players in the final six months of their contract can negotiate pre-contracts with international teams.

Here are the six Plymouth Argyle players who will be eligible in January…

1 Callum Burton

Callum Burton, the custodian, is first on this list, and it would not be surprising if he chose to leave Home Park.

Burton excelled as a stand-in for the injured Michael Cooper last season, helping the club over the finish line in the title chase.

Burton appears to be surplus to requirements now that Cooper is back and competing for the starting job with summer acquisition Conor Hazard.

At this moment, a January departure appears more plausible, although with six months remaining on his contract, the custodian might sign a pre-contract agreement.

2 Matt Butcher

Matt Butcher played 40 League One appearances for Argyle in his first season after coming from Accrington Stanley, but has found opportunities tougher to come by this season.

He signed a two-year contract in Devon in 2022, so he might be thinking about his future next month.

3 Saxon Earley

Saxon Earley has seen his Argyle tenure hampered by injuries, the latest setback seeing him undergo ankle surgery a few months ago.

He is just 21 and is in the early stages of his career. The former Norwich City man certainly has a lot of room for growth and, according to Transfermarkt, he is out of contract in the summer but it would be a surprise to see an overseas club take a punt on him due to his fitness record.

4 Jack Endacott

19-year-old Jack Endacott is another youngster whose future is a little up in the air.

Endacott was one of four academy graduates to sign a first professional deal with the club in the summer and it remains to be seen where his future lies at the end of his one-year contract.

5 Brendan Galloway

If Earley has been hampered by injuries, it is nearly impossible to describe the struggles of teammate defender Brendan Galloway.

The former Everton man, who is a full-fledged Zimbabwe international, initially signed an 18-month deal with the club, but a year extension was triggered following Argyle’s promotion back to the second division.

Galloway played just over 1,200 minutes in League One last season, missing a total of 18 games due to two separate hamstring ailments, but he has enjoyed a run in the Argyle side this season and is repaying the faith.

His contract expires in the summer, so foreign clubs may make a move if they feel appropriate.

Mickel Miller

Mickel Miller is another Argyle player who sat in the stands for much of the title-winning victory.

It’s reasonable to say he’s a bit-part player for the Pilgrims, and it’s unclear whether they’ll attempt to extend his contract, which expires in the summer.
