Mickel Miller ruled out but Brendan Galloway in Plymouth Argyle comeback
Pilgrims’ boss Steven Schumacher spoke about both players after the 2-0 Championship win against Sunderland at Home Park
Left-back Mickel Miller missed out on Plymouth Argyle’s 2-0 Championship win against Sunderland due to a groin problem, manager Steven Schumacher explained.
The Pilgrims’ boss is hoping it is not a serious issue and Miller could yet be available for the away game against Coventry City on Tuesday night. While Miller had to watch on from the sidelines as Argyle beat Sunderland with first half goals from Morgan Whittaker and Finn Azaz there was a welcome return to action for defender Brendan Galloway.
The Zimbabwean international returned from a long-term hamstring injury after being substituted on in the 88th minute.
During the waning minutes of the Pilgrims’ 2-1 League One victory over Shrewsbury Town in mid-April, Galloway, who had last appeared for the team, switched to left-back.
Michael Miller wasn’t available because, late in the training session on Friday, he had some groyne tightness, according to Schumacher.
“We will see how Mickel is on Tuesday since we know that given his past, it wasn’t worth taking a chance on doing anything with it. I’m hoping it’s just a slight stiffness or anything.”
Galloway was included among Argyle’s nine substitutes against Sunderland instead of Macaulay Gillesphey.
“With Mickel gone, Brendan is a more natural left-back,” Schumacher stated. Dan Scarr and Macca, two centre defenders, weren’t necessary in my opinion (as substitutes).
Because Brendan could play one of those full-back positions and I thought he performed well when he came on, we chose to go with him. After a lengthy absence, I’m happy to see him return to the fold.”
