Plymouth Argyle have this advantage over Championship rivals…

Plymouth Argyle’s prospects of remaining in the second division are boosted because of this particular figure.

Despite all odds, they finished with a League One championship last season after scoring a very outstanding 101 points.

Last week, Steven Schumacher’s club faced off against Sheffield Wednesday, another promoted team, and they humiliated the bottom team on home turf.

Argyle has one early edge going for them, and they can definitely hold their own in this division.

In fact, if there is a chance for relegation, Plymouth Argyle may have the advantage due to goal differential.

What advantage do Plymouth Argyle hold?

To begin with, given what they’ve witnessed thus far, many Plymouth supporters will be hopeful that relegation won’t be a problem for them.

The Devon club might quickly find itself in the bottom half of the table if they experience a run of bad performances, demonstrating how fiercely contested the Championship can be.

As of this writing, they are six points ahead of the relegation zone with a total of 15 points, placing them in 19th place.

Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, and Queens Park Rangers are presently occupying the three despised bottom slots, and Argyle leads them in more ways than just points.

The other important component is goal differential, since they frequently lose by a smaller margin than those in and around them.

Of the teams outside of the top eight, only Swansea City had a higher GD of +1 than Schumacher’s team.

Huddersfield Town is ranked below them with a GD of -13, and the three players in the drop zone are in a similar area to the Terriers.

The Pilgrims have made progress in this regard after defeating Sheffield Wednesday 3 goals in a row and defeating Norwich City 6-2; their worst loss to date was against Bristol City, when they lost 4-1.

Argyle drew with West Bromwich Albion and Hull City, but lost to Southampton and Ipswich Town by a single goal. Huddersfield, however, gave up four goals in October sets against Birmingham City, Cardiff City, and Leeds United. Wednesday has now lost four times in 2023 by a two-goal margin.
