According to reporter John Percy, Plymouth Argyle will interview Paul Heckingbottom this week as they intensify their hunt for a new head coach.
With director of football Neil Dewsnip serving as interim manager at the end of the season, Plymouth Argyle will be searching for a new manager this summer.
Dewsnip assumed command for the second time during the campaign following Ian Foster’s departure, and he successfully guided the Pilgrims to safety. Although their first season back in the Championship was quite close, they eventually succeeded in preventing an instant return to League One.
In light of Foster’s difficulties, Argyle is approaching their upcoming appointment with patience, but it appears that things will pick up during the course of the following week.

He was only managing Sheffield United in the Premier League this season. Indeed, the Blades had suffered in the premier league throughout his tenure, but many believed Heckingbottom was not entirely to blame for the Bramall Lane team’s demise because of the sales of important players.
In the end, he did a great job at Sheffield United, helping them win promotion during his final Championship year.
Bringing someone to Home Park who has such a recent record would be Plymouth’s declaration.
Changing direction?
At 46, Heckingbottom is by no means an elderly manager, but he is by far the most experienced when compared to the club’s previous managers. Ryan Lowe had been Bury’s manager for approximately 18 months prior to joining Plymouth Argyle, and Steven Schumacher’s first managerial role was at Home Park. Foster had coached England’s youth teams and had a wealth of experience, but his only club management had been in Ireland from 2009 to 2011. Meanwhile, Heckingbottom has been in the dugout since 2016, having led Barnsley, Leeds United, Hibernian, and Sheffield United during that period.
The Barnsley-born boss would mark an impressive appointment but with options still being considered, time will tell who lands the Plymouth Argyle gig as they ramp up their search.
