will the 21-year-old, defender from Plymouth Argyle recover*

The 21-year-old, who just recovered from a protracted ankle ailment, will want to see regular game action with the League One team.

In an attempt to bring the fit-again Saxon Earley regular playing time following his recovery from a chronic ankle problem, Plymouth Argyle has loaned him to Wycombe Wanderers.

At the beginning of the season, the 21-year-old made two appearances for the Pilgrims. He stood out in especially when he began the 0-0 Championship tie against Watford. But the following week, Earley had an injury during practice, and he didn’t start back until earlier this month.

Since Argyle acquired England under-19 international Lino Sousa from Aston Villa earlier today, they were able to let Earley leave for Wycombe without worrying about being short-staffed at left-back. Bali Mumba and Mickel Miller are also able to perform there.

In as many days, Earley has become the second player from Argyle to join Wycombe. Matt Butcher, a midfielder, joined the Buckinghamshire club permanently last night, Wednesday.

Ian Foster, head coach of Argyle, stated: “Saxon needs to go play, so I’m really happy with that. With his layoff, it would have been challenging to reintegrate him into the team.

“I simply believe that expecting him to be healthy for Championship games is a very big ask. To me, it seems unjust to expect him to do that as well, so he attends a top-notch competition in League One. I’m hoping he plays often, avoids injuries, and returns to full strength by summertime.”

In Saturday’s away match against Cheltenham Town, Wycombe, now ranked 19th in League One, may see the debuts of Butcher and Earley.

When Earley joined Argyle in January 2023 after leaving Norwich City, he agreed to a contract that would last until the summer of 2025. So far with the Pilgrims, he has only made six starts and five substitute appearances.
