Man killed, 2 children injured after car goes off Route 3 in Plymouth

Monday afternoon, a rollover car went off Route 3 in Plymouth and into a river, killing one person and injuring two others, according to authorities.

Just before 5 p.m., first responders were summoned to a single-car collision on Route 3 near the Eel River in Plymouth. The Plymouth Fire Department released a statement on Monday.
According to a statement from Massachusetts State Police, the vehicle, a 2015 Nissan Rogue, was heading south on the highway close to the 10.6 mile marker when, for an unknown cause, it veered off the left side of the road and into the river, resting on its roof. The department stated that the car also crossed guardrails.

According to state police, “EMS and arriving troopers worked quickly to extricate the vehicle’s occupants.”

The 50-year-old Plymouth man who was driving the car had to be freed by firefighters using hydraulic tools after they had to wade into the river. The department estimates that it took about 20 minutes to complete the task.

According to the agency, a medical chopper transported the man to a trauma centre in Boston. State police said that he was declared deceased at the facility.
According to state police, the two kids—a 13-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy—who were in the car during the collision sustained significant injuries and are still being treated in the hospital.

For almost three hours, the highway’s left and right driving lanes were blocked. State police reported that while an analysis and cleanup were being conducted, traffic was able to proceed via the breakdown lane.

State police are looking into the crash, according to the agency. State police said that the Plymouth Fire Department, Plymouth EMS, Plymouth Police Department, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation all provided assistance to the troopers.
