Portsmouth forward seals important move ahead of key summer decision’

Desiny Ojo was struggling for regular game time at Sholing despite six goals and three assists

Pompey youngster Destiny Ojo has found himself a new club.

Just a week after being recalled from his loan spell at Poole Town, the third-year scholar has sealed a similar move to Sholing, where he will link up with former Hawks boss Paul Doswell.

The Boatmen sit 12th in the Southern League Premier South – a place behind Matt Tubb’s Poole side, for whom the young forward scored six times and registered three assists before his Fratton Park recall.

The young player from the Blues Academy had his time at Tatnam cut short in an attempt to provide him playing time before a crucial summer when his future at Pompey will be determined. Just seven of his 22 appearances for Poole were as a starter.
Sholing revealed three new additions on Friday, including him. “(Destiny is) a dynamic 19-year-old forward who was on loan at Poole Town this season, where he scored six goals and had three assists,” Doswell said in extending the player’s welcome to the team. As someone who has long admired Destiny, I am aware that Poole was eager to hold onto him. We made a wise acquisition, and I appreciate Greg Miller, the manager of Pompey Academy, for his assistance.

Ojo, who joined the Blues from Lancing in 2022, has not yet played for Pompey at the senior level. But after being utilised by John Mousinho’s team during the preseason, he scored in matches against Gosport and the Hawks.

This week, Mousinho stated to The News that Destiny is almost ready for gameplay. We decided to recall him in order to see if he can gain some further playing time somewhere, even though it wouldn’t have been a major problem for us if he had stayed at Poole.

This year, the pool has been fairly good, especially after Matt Tubbs entered. It was difficult for Destiny to get in because they have two extremely skilled center-forwards at that level, but all in all, he has had an excellent experience.

Sam Folarin wasn’t having the effect we would have expected him to have, which is one of the reasons he went on loan there (Poole) then returned, but Destiny’s decision to stay showed what they thought of him.

“He has a lot going for him and a good chance of succeeding.”
