Callum Lang’s likely return to the matchday squad before the season’s conclusion has significantly boosted Portsmouth’s hopes of promotion this year.
With five games remaining in the season and a five-point advantage over Derby County in second place, Portsmouth is a strong candidate to win League One and advance to the Championship.
Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with the previously stated Derby would move Pompey one point closer to the championship while also keeping their opponents from gaining any ground. It was an intense match where Portsmouth had to come from behind to gain a point at home, making it a fantastic advertisement for League One football. With an eventual equaliser scored by substitute Owen Moxon, John Mousinho made excellent use of his bench to keep the team five points ahead of the Rams and with a game remaining against them.
The league leaders, who have now gone 14 games without a loss, have had an amazing few months. It hasn’t been simple by any means; in 2024, the team experienced a minor injury problem. Even still, opponents find it frightening as players keep stepping up and gradually starting to becoming stronger once more.
Manager Mousinho claimed that there were no further injuries from the match against Derby in an interview posted on the team’s official website.
“We’re all okay aside from a few bumps and bruises from Tuesday, and we should be able to choose from the same squad.”
Not only was there good news, but the manager also gave updates on the injuries of Tom Lowery and Callum Lang, two players who will be involved in the last stretch of the campaign.
Lang has been amazing since joining from Wigan Athletic in January. Before his injury, he was one of the team’s most notable players. His effect has been evident in just eight games since moving to Fratton Park, where he has contributed two assists and four goals. The fans will undoubtedly be thrilled to have him back. Lang seems well on his way to a full recovery, but Mousinho won’t want to rush him back.
Tom Lowery, a midfielder, is also anticipated to rejoin the team. Both players are scheduled to play again on April 13 against Bolton Wanderers.
“Callum Lang is progressing well. We’re hopeful he’ll train with the group next week now that he’s back on the grass.
“He’s a little bit behind Tom Lowery, so both of them should be ready to take on Bolton.”
Lowery is another welcome return to the team and gives more depth to the midfield, even though Lang is the more entertaining of the two.

Callum Lang may easily be said to be among the best purchases made during the January transfer window. His goal contributions to Pompey’s winning streak have been enormous, and as a result, he has helped them accumulate a lot of points. He has been somewhat sidelined since his injury against Blackpool in early March, but he will still be contributing this season.
