Road closed after tragic incident in Prescot

Following two car crashes in Prescot, a major road has been closed and buses have been rerouted.

Just after 2:30 pm, a Ford Fiesta and a Volkswagen Golf were engaged in an incident on Warrington Road,

close to Pennington Gardens. According to Merseyside Police, the male driver of the Ford sustained a

significant leg injury and was brought to the hospital.

As of 4 p.m., a section of the road was still blocked in both directions. Police warned that this closure would last “for some time” while they waited for the damaged cars to be recovered.

Arriva North West alerted customers via a tweet that a “police incident at Pennington Gardens” would cause its Prescot route 10A to deviate, skipping a portion of Warrington Road and instead going via Kemble Street and the Prescot Bus Terminal. Additionally, Prescot services 61 and 69 will bypass Warrington Road and Prescot Bus Station in favor of Kemble Street.

An official from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service stated: “On Monday afternoon, the 16th, we responded to an incident on Warrington Road in Prescot.”Two fire engines responded to the warning at 2.39 p.m., and crews arrived on the site at 2.42 p.m. When the fire department arrived, there was a two-vehicle collision on the road with all four wheels and the drivers had already exited their cars.

“Crews administered first aid to one individual in advance of North West Ambulance Service arrival. Paramedics then checked both persons involved, with the driver of vehicle one not needing any further medical attention and the driver of vehicle two being conveyed to hospital.”
