Arne Slot response to Preston North End as Liverpool lose to Preston in pre-season friendly

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is looking at the positives after overseeing his first game in charge of the club.

The Reds were beaten 1-0 by Championship side Preston in a behind-closed-doors friendly, with Robbie Brady’s fine strike proving the only goal of the game.

Each half saw Slot employ a different starting lineup, with Stefan Bajcetic coming in after the break and Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai among the first to take the field.

Conor Bradley, Salah, and Harvey Elliott all had chances in the first half, but Brady’s incredible long-range goal came after Liverpool was caught off guard when playing from the back.

Slot’s side could not respond after the interval but the Dutchman is looking far beyond the result, as is natural at this stage of pre-season.

“After two weeks of tough training sessions it’s important to play a game as well,” he said.

“The most important thing is that everybody was fit before the game and they stayed fit during the game as well.

It’s been a decent two weeks, then. Although the outcome today was not what we had hoped for, they managed to stay fit, many of them played, and several young players saw some action, so that was a positive.

Next week, Liverpool will begin their USA trip against Real Betis in Pittsburgh, followed by exciting matches against Manchester United and Arsenal.

They then play Sevilla at home before their Premier League campaign begins away at Ipswich on August 17.
