Josh Coburn of Middlesbrough is a striker that Preston North End is attempting to sign before the deadline, sources have told Football Insider.
With Tommy Conway’s recent arrival, Coburn is now lower in the pecking order, and several teams are keeping an eye on his circumstances at the Riverside.
Before the transfer window closes, Preston’s new manager Paul Heckingbottom hopes to add more attacking alternatives to his team. Heckingbottom is a huge fan of the 21-year-old striker.
On Tuesday, August 27, Michael Carrick’s team suffered a crushing 5-0 League Cup loss to Championship rivals Stoke City, with the youthful striker leading the line.
Preston North End want Josh Coburn to bolster attack
Since joining the main team in 2021, Coburn has made 56 appearances and scored 12 goals for Middlesbrough.
During his academy days, the striker was very productive, making 44 appearances for the Under-18s and Under-23s and scoring 20 goals.
He hasn’t yet translated his successful academy performance into senior football, but he was crucial to his team’s 3-0 victory over Leeds United, contributing both an assist and a goal.
Coburn isn’t the only potential departure from the Riverside Stadium as the transfer window clock ticks down.
