During the January transfer window, Preston North End is expected to enter the competition to sign Ryan Kent, a free agent.
Through his Patreon account, Alan Nixon claims that Paul Heckingbottom is eager to work with the winger again after they collaborated at Barnsley in the 2016–17 campaign, when Kent was a member of Liverpool’s roster.
After a protracted argument with the Istanbul team, where he was exiled by former manager Ismail Kartel, Kent’s contract with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce was mutually ended in October, leaving him a free agent.
Even though he is a free agent, his next team will have to wait until January to register him because he left after the English summer window closed agent
Preston North End eye deal for free agent winger Ryan Kent
According to reports, Kent has a lot of admirers in the UK and beyond since leaving Fenerbahce.
In October, The Sun said that League One team Leyton Orient was surprisingly interested in bringing him back to English football, with Saudi Arabian teams also showing interest.
Leeds United is reportedly monitoring the player despite their present injury problems and may try to sign the 27-year-old, according to Football Insider.
After graduating from Liverpool’s academy, Kent went on loan to Coventry City, Barnsley, Bristol City, and Rangers before settling down permanently with the Glasgow team in 2019.
When Kent joined the Tykes on loan in the summer of 2016, Heckingbottom was in charge of the team. Under the current PNE manager, Kent made 44 Championship appearances.
The Lilywhites have set their sights on adding Kent to the squad in an attempt to increase their offensive options in the winter transfer window.
Heckingottom took over as manager in August when Ryan Lowe abruptly left following only one league game against Sheffield United, but the Lancashire team has had a lacklustre start to the season.
Preston North End’s difficult start to the season could force the need for additions
As of the November international break, Preston is tied for 22nd position with Cardiff City in the Championship standings, in 20th place.
In order to support their attempt to move up the second division standings, Heckingbottom will be trying to sign Kent.
Kent only played for Fenerbahce for one season, but he struggled to get regular playing time and was left out of Mourinho’s first team plans, which caused him to leave last month.
Preston’s next match comes against Derby County at home on November 23. In that match, Montenegro international Milutin Osmajic will return from an eight-game suspension for biting Blackburn Rovers defender Owen Beck, which will undoubtedly give Heckingbottom additional offensive options.
Ryan Kent signing would be good January business for Preston North End
Although Kent was unable to succeed in Turkish football, he is still a talent that might have a significant impact in the Championship.
He is familiar with Heckingbottom and the division, and he would provide this Preston team with much-needed firepower.
For a team like North End, who have never had the largest resources in comparison to other Championship powerhouses, this would be excellent business because he would be signing as a free agent.
Although it might not be that easy to close a deal given the rivalry for his signature, their previous connection to North End’s manager might help them.
