PNE hopes to add more during the summer transfer window.
Transfer negotiations are moving slowly, but Preston North End is hoping to bolster Ryan Lowe’s team even more this week.
Earlier this month, the Lilywhites completed their first two summer signings. On July 5, Sam Greenwood—a loanee from Leeds United—arrived. Four days later, Stefan Teitur Thordarson, a midfielder for Silkeborg, followed him through the door.
As a result, following the departures of Lewis Leigh, Alan Browne, and Ben Woodburn, North End’s midfield is once again robust. Preston’s work was not yet done, though, so it was time to move on to defensive reinforcements, both wide and in the centre of defence.
It’s believed that North End is headed in the right direction when it comes to adding a left-sided center-half and wing-back. In both cases, the Deepdale team has a few choices. Following Liam Millar’s return to FC Basel, left wing-back appears to be the more important position.
The name Harrison Burrows of Peterborough United, however, appears to be able to be crossed off the list. PNE made an offer for the 22-year-old, but it was turned down. Preston was reportedly set to sign for Sheffield United for £3 million plus add-ons, but Posh’s valuation priced him out.
The Lilywhites kept the identity of their first two acquisitions well hidden, leading to a dearth of center-back rumours. Alfie Gilchrist, a young player for Chelsea, and Ilay Camara of RWDM Molenbeek have been linked.
Regarding the former, Camara’s team is rumoured to have blocked a move by Standard Liege, another Belgian club that has expressed interest recently. Gilchrist, on the other hand, has been connected to Leeds United, Como 1907, and Blackburn Rovers. However, the latter have just paid an alleged £5 million to sign Jayden Bogle from Sheffield United.
