3 summer targets Preston North End will be disappointed they missed out on

Preston North End will be hoping the Yorkshireman can guide them to the Championship play-offs this season. He was picked as their replacement for Ryan Lowe after they cut ties with him earlier in August. After Sheffield United placed second in the league last year, 47-year-old Heckingbottom helped his team advance to the Premier League. However, following a dismal run of play in the top division, he parted ways with the Blades in December of last year.

In order to strengthen their roster, the Lilywhites made use of the summer transfer window to bring in players like Sam Greenwood, Jeppe Okkels, Josh Bowler, Stefán Teitur Þórðarson, and Kaine Kesler-Hayden. Deepdale lost a number of people, including Greg Cunningham, Ben Woodburn, and Alan Browne.

These three players are ones they will be sad to have missed out on.Preston, Hull City, and Rangers, two other second-tier clubs in the Scottish Premiership, considered making a late play for the Hearts striker. But in the end, nothing happened, and he remained at Tynecastle Park past the deadline on Friday, August 30.

Shankland would have strengthened the Lancashire team’s offensive options and been a perfect match. The Scotland international has scored 59 goals in precisely 100 games for his current club thus far, and he has been extremely productive for them in recent years.Phillips would have been perfect to fill the vacuum that Browne’s departure to Sunderland created in the middle of the midfield. The 26-year-old was considered by the Lilywhites, but he ultimately decided to stay at Oakwell instead of switching schools. He is contracted with South Yorkshire until 2026 and has assisted the Tykes in making it to the League One play-offs in each of the previous two seasons. Having played for them for 96 games so far, the former Burnley player has contributed 25 goals from midfield.
Coburn, like Shankland, would have offered Preston something fresh at the top and strengthened their striking department. Heckingbottom’s team gave the 21-year-old some thought, but in the end, he temporarily joined Millwall from Middlesbrough. In the Lions’ final game before the international break against Sheffield Wednesday, he scored on his debut. The forward was previously on loan from Boro to Bristol Rovers.
