CEO at Scottish Premiership side Reveal’ Shankland big-money cost to ibrox deal this summer

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004 as well as having lengthy spells as chief of Everton and Aston Villa, and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the 28-year-old is “getting on a bit” and wouldn’t be classed as a “marquee signing” for the Gers.

Shankland has made attempts to sign the Hearts talisman during the mid-season and has been frequently linked to a possible move to Rangers.

On January 26, Football Insider disclosed that while Philippe Clement’s team was prepared to make a last-ditch effort to sign the Scotland international during the winter transfer window, Hearts refused to let him go in the middle of the campaign.

Rangers will likely make another attempt to sign the forward in the summer after continuing to monitor him.

‘Shankland will not cost Rangers big money’, says Wyness

With 38 games played, Shankland has scored 27 goals for the Edinburgh club, who are now third in the Scottish Premiership.
He arrived from Belgian side Beerschot in 2022 and has a contract at Tynecastle until May 2025.

“Shankland would not cost big money,” Wyness stated on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider.

“Despite being a tremendous scorer, he is getting on in years. In the past, he has moved for between £1-2 million—not large sums of money.

You can expect one or two successful seasons out of a player of that calibre.

“I wouldn’t really characterise him as a marquee player.
They’ll go for the players Clement desires because, in my opinion, he has a keen sense of who players need.

“I believe it’s time for Rangers to invest as much as possible and get their manager back.”

Rangers’ three-man signing plan was disclosed in unrelated news.
