Didn’t fancy him’: Celtic and Rangers now told they’ve made big mistake not signing £1m player

Former Rangers striker, Lee McCulloch, said on PLZ Soccer that he was surprised that both clubs didn’t ‘battle it out’ for the signature of former Aberdeen midfielder, Lewis Ferguson.

“Do you remember what we’re talking about a few years ago when he was ripping it up at Aberdeen because I said on the show that if I was Celtic or Rangers they should have signed him,” host Peter Martin asked [PLZ Soccer].

“Rangers should have signed him for £1 million.”

McCulloch “Celtic as well.” It seems as though they had no interest in him at all, even though they ought to have been competing for his signature.

Could Lewis Ferguson have made it at Celtic?

Nobody could have predicted at the moment the kind of impact the Bologna player would have had in the Italian top division.

Ferguson made 32 appearances and netted seven goals in his debut season with Bologna. In just 12 appearances for the Serie A team this season, he has added three goals and four assists

Ange Postecoglou had Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Aaron Mooy, and David Turnbull in his midfield when he was available.

Ferguson most likely would have spent most of his time on the bench and there was no assurance that he would have been selected before any of those four even if Celtic had paid the £1 million for him.

The 24-year-old is unquestionably a talented player. You don’t enter the Serie A and, following two successful seasons, find yourself in the company of teams like AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli for nothing. * BBC*

He would have been a steal at £1 million, but I don’t think he would be getting nearly as much playing time at Celtic as he is at Bologna.
