Fabrizio Romano: Rangers now close to sealing “priority” in-house deal

A “tremendous” Ibrox ace might soon join Rangers through a “priority” in-house deal, according to a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Rangers transfer news

The Green Bay Packers are aware that, should Philippe Clement feel the need to bolster his team at that point, the January transfer window will provide them the chance to make more acquisitions.

It would make sense for them to be able to acquire quality players to improve their chances of winning the Scottish Premiership this season, and several players have recently been linked to moves to Ibrox.

One player who has been considered as a potential transfer target for the Gers is Mason Cotcher, a teenager from Arsenal. Recently, there has even been talk of Ryan Kent coming back. The same article also included Lawrence Shankland and Bojan Miovski as candidates, indicating that there are a lot of players in the running to join in January.

But it’s also critical that Rangers hang onto some of its most valuable assets to make sure they don’t leave for better opportunities, and an exciting development has just surfaced regarding one such player.

McCausland close to new Rangers deal

In a major step, Ross McCausland has agreed to sign a new deal with Rangers, according to Romano, who spoke on X on Saturday.

“EXCL: Rangers top talent Ross McCausland has agreed to sign new long term deal until June 2027. Done and sealed, set to be signed in the next 24/48h. New deal was priority for the club after Ross impressed attracting big clubs and also made his international debut.”

This is brilliant news for Rangers, considering how much potential McCausland has in his boots, having already made a positive impact this season, albeit sporadically.

The 20-year-old may only have made one Scottish Premiership start in the lead-up to Sunday’s clash with Aberdeen at Pittodrie, but he has produced some strong cameos, leading to Lee McCulloch to say of him after the win over Sparta Prague in the Europa League:

“He was very, very smart. He moves quickly, and tonight I thought his technical first touch was excellent. In addition, he appeared controlled and confident despite the intensity of the game and the cauldron in which he was playing. The goalie produced a fantastic save to save his shot. With a tremendous weight of pass, he cut inside the man and gave Danilo a chance to score. He is great coming out of the academy and has worked hard.”

Rangers must retain the services of the most intriguing young players at the club, and McCausland fits that description. He has every motivation to keep improving as a player in the coming years.

In the event that interest in the young Scot materialises, a new contract guarantees the Gers a strong negotiating position, enabling them to demand a high price for the forward or, in the event that they must eventually dispose him, to make a significant profit.
