Hearts man makes Clement accusation after controversial Rangers incident at Hampden Ibrox News

Andy Halliday accuses Philippe Clement following the contentious Rangers game at Hampden Park.
Following a contentious incident during Sunday’s Rangers vs. Hearts match, Andy Halliday has levelled a complaint against Philippe Clement (5 November).

The Jambos defender acknowledged, in an interview with Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Monday, November 6, via the Daily Record, that he had no idea why fourth official David Dickinson was grinning at the Gers manager following Scott Wright’s goal in the 3-1 victory in the Viaplay Cup semi-final at Hampden Park.

The 32-year-old said the “very animated” Belgian was “badgering the life” out of the official for at least 35 minutes during the game, but the Scotsman added that he wasn’t reading too much into the smile towards the Light Blues manager.

Halliday remarked, “I really can’t tell you why he is smiling.” But let me tell you, Philippe Clement was harassing the fourth official for at least 35 minutes leading up to what would have been the 60th minute.

“About decisions: the choice to give Cantwell a booking, the choice to give a free kick. To put it mildly, there was a lot of back and forth between them at the time .”

“I don’t want to overanalyze it, but was it a situation where your team was ahead 2-0 or 3-0 and you could relax now?” The appeal of bench cam lies in it. You may analyse the entire scenario in a sense. He had a lot of energy. There was undoubtedly a recurring theme in the first part, which isfor sure.”

Though Dickinson’s smile at Clement when Wright’s goal went in was perhaps not the finest look at the time, the incident has been overblown.

The official was presumably only conceding that, with his team comfortably ahead in the match, the Ibrox manager needed a time to collect himself, as former Gers left-back Halliday pointed out.

The Light Blues supporters will be happy to see the Belgian’s enthusiasm as he attempts to assist the team in moving forward. He is undoubtedly an animated player when he is on the bench.

It was a fantastic win that gives the team a strong opportunity to win the Viaplay Cup for the first time since 2011 and some much-needed hardware.

The manager has had a great start to his time in Glasgow, and he will be looking to build on this in the coming weeks leading up to the last match on December 17 against Aberdeen.
