Rangers manager has provided an injury update on several noteworthy absentees – with the club’s medical staff not taking any risks with Dujon Sterling and Ross McCausland ahead of Sunday’s Premiership clash with Dundee.
Sterling sat out of the Europa League tie with Benfica due to an injury sustained in last weekend’s Scottish Cup win over Hibs at Easter Road. His replacement, McCausland, also limped off later in the match but was an unused substitute on Thursday night.
The Belgian has acknowledged that there is less likelihood of utility player Sterling playing against the Dark Blues this weekend due to Clement’s ongoing injury concerns, but McCausland will get every opportunity to play. Although his recuperation is reportedly going well, Abdallah Sima hasn’t yet resumed full training with the rest of his teammates. He is also on the road to recover.
Clement said: “Abda is progressing as previously predicted. One small step at a time, he feels so terrific. He is currently outside but not yet with the team, continuing his rehabilitation. It is fantastic to see that he is making such good development.
“We’ll see, but Dujon is going to be a really doubtful one towards Sunday. We won’t risk losing him for an extended period of time. Ross McCausland struggled as well, but he was limited to the bench because you have to consider that this game might have lasted 120 minutes. After recovering from an injury, Scott Wright played extensively, while Rabbi Matondo had to play minutes.
