Journalist shares ‘Scary’ exit admission on ‘Unbelievable’ Rangers star

The prospect of Rangers captain James Tavernier leaving Ibrox is a “scary” one for the club, according to Dean Jones.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Tuesday (14 November), the former Eurosport journalist said the 32-year-old has been “unbelievable” after turning up at the “right moments” for the Gers.

He added that some of the Light Blues fans who have questioned the English right-back may realise that the “grass isn’t always greener” once he does eventually leave the club.

“He is an influential character to have around,” said Jones. “He’s had ups and downs in his career. But he’s been unbelievable, to be honest, in terms of turning up at the right moments and being influential when he needs to be influential. I think you look back, and he’s been at the club for a long time.

“The moment he leaves is quite a scary prospect, to be honest. As a Rangers fan, you’d like to believe you can come through a moment like that.

“But the grass isn’t always greener, and there genuinely might be a point where some Rangers fans who have questioned him over the years do realise what they had because he’s got the character and traits that can dig Rangers out of a hole, and he’s continued to do that.”

Influential

There is no doubt about the influence that Tavernier has had on the Rangers sides since he joined the club eight years ago.

While he is sometimes questioned on his defensive work, the impact he has for the Gers in the attacking third is absolutely incredible.

The Light Blues captain has already notched 11 goals in 22 appearances for his side this season, figures that are simply outstanding for a right-back.

The Englishman has led the club through some challenging times over the past few years, but he has also been a key figure in the success they have achieved during his time at Ibrox.

His presence and impact on the team will be difficult to replace once he eventually does leave, but Philippe Clement is likely to want to keep him around for some time to come.
