Progression in the Europa League will be ‘very lucrative’ for Rangers this season after they confirmed their spot in the competition’s knockout stage.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the financial benefits of Rangers’ European success.
The Glasgow giants finished top of Group C in the Europa League following their dramatic 3-2 win over Real Betis on Thursday.
Philippe Clement’s side will now progress through to the knockout stages of the tournament, earning the club additional prize money from Uefa.
As revealed by Football Insider on Friday (15 December), Rangers have already earned over £20million from their Europa League campaign after topping their group.
Including prize money, market pool payments, coefficient payments and matchday revenue from hosting European nights at Ibrox, Gers have already made more than half of the fee from their run to the final in 2022.
Rangers announced in their 2022 annual report that their Europa League final run earned the club £30.5million overall.
Magiure believes Rangers’ Europa League performance will make up for their failure to reach the Champions League this season.
“The Europa League can be very lucrative for Rangers,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Compared to the money available in the Scottish Premiership, the TV money available in Europe is off the charts.
“The fact that they boast a good record in the competition this season and have now topped the group means they get an immediate bonus as well.
“So Rangers will be absolutely delighted and it will make up for the disappointment they felt when they narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification.“
