‘Mad’ – Rangers man gives honest Michael Beale opinion after summer transfer saga:

Scott Wright is “grateful” to Michael Beale for not pushing him out the door at Rangers during a summer in which he looked destined to leave the club.

The 26-year-old winger appeared set for a move to Turkey with Pendikspor during a busy window that saw nine players arrive at Ibrox.

But Beale paid for the price for failing to get a tune out of his new signings and Wright, who had fallen out of favour under the old boss, is glad he chose to stay at fight for his spot having helped the Gers to Viaplay Cup glory in a 1-0 over Aberdeen on December 17.

However, Wright was not critical over how things transpired under Beale.

In quotes reported by the Daily Record (23 December), he said: “It’s mad the way things work out in football. I’d gone out to Turkey and spoke to the club but for a few different reasons it didn’t seem right for me personally to go.

“I was grateful to Michael at that point because he let me go out and speak to the club. But he never really pushed me out the door. He said there was a place for me here. Football moves so fast and I was grateful to come back to such a massive club and I’ll continue to work hard and try and fight for more opportunities.

“Hindsight is a crazy thing in football but ideally (winning more medals here with Rangers) would be the best-case scenario for sure.”

Football’s a funny game

It is fair to suggest that no one really expected Wright to still be a Rangers player at this moment in time, it looked for all the world that he was off to Turkey and the hustle and bustle of life in Istanbul.

But, as we all know, things did not work out under Beale at the start of this season and while one manager might fancy a player another boss might see them as ideal for their squad.

Wright has not exactly been a regular starter under Philippe Clement but he has certainly been a useful option as proven by his performance off the bench in the Viaplay Cup final, where Rangers edged over the line in a dour 1-0 victory.

For Wright now, it will be a case of knuckling down, showing Clement that he can be part of his long-term plans, and – as he said – hopefully being part of a Rangers side that continues to have success under their Belgian boss.
