Philippe Clement called out by reporter for comment made at press conference.
After making a reference to Harry Potter during his press conference, presenter Peter Martin made a joke about Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s need to refrain from saying anything that “can be misconstrued” by the media.
After being named last weekend, Clement, a former manager of Monaco and Club Brugge, is getting ready for his debut game as manager on Saturday, October 21, against Hibernian at Ibrox.
On Friday, October 20, Clement addressed the gathered media, stating that he is “not Harry Potter with the magic stick who can change everything suddenly.”
Martin chuckled as he listened to those remarks made on Friday, 20 October, on PZL Soccer’s The Football Show, saying, “He has to avoid anything that can be misconstrued.”
“You just cannot do that; I can see the Harry Potter hat and everything tomorrow, with Hagrid by his side.”
“There’s a bit of lack of experience there on the Scottish media,” pundit Lee McCullough continued.
The most notable statement during Clement’s first pre-match press conference was his Harry Potter quotation, which he used in response to a query regarding how soon he anticipates things to improve at Ibrox.
The Belgian made a lighthearted remark that essentially suggests we can’t count on him to make a big difference right away.
Although Martin was joking when he remarked, “cannot do that,” there is undoubtedly some truth to what he said.
At some point, the Scottish media will surely seize onto that press conference tidbit and fabricate pictures of Clement dressed like Harry Potter.
Managers in the Glasgow bubble need to exercise caution while speaking, whether in jest or not, as their words could come back to harm them.
Gers supporters will only be praying that Clement gets off to a magical start when Hibernian visit Ibrox, even though he might not be Harry Potter.
James Tavernier has shared his experience of receiving “the full brunt” of criticism from Rangers fans in othernews.
