Rangers at front of queue to sign Wolves £35m ace who scored 16 goals last season

Rangers are reportedly ‘at the forefront of the race’ to sign £35 million striker Fabio Silva on loan from Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window.

Philippe Clement has already admitted that he wants Rangers to bring in a new striker as a priority next month. And the sight of Kemar Roofe limping off just 16 minutes into Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over St Johnstone – the experienced forward joining Danilo in the treatment room – will not have softened that stance.

Bojan Miovski has already been connected to the Glasgow giants, but Aberdeen has made it plain that they have no intention of selling. Meanwhile, Kevin van Veen seems eager to succeed during his tenure at Groningen.

But perhaps the Rangers won’t encounter as many difficulties chasing Fabio Silva.

It’s likely that Wolves will permit the former FC Porto starlet to depart. After playing just 17 minutes of Premier League football since mid-September, Silva might also be eager for a new beginning.

O Jogo claims that Rangers are first in line for the 21-year-old marksman. Celtic, an Old Firm rival, is also interested, and both teams would probably need Wolves to accept offers for a short-term loan.

Of course, that cannot be ruled out. Silva’s reputation might be greatly enhanced by an outstanding run at Ibrox or Parkhead north of the border, which would give Wolves a much better chance of recovering a large portion of that poorly thought out £35 million investment.

16 goals in the previous campaign
“I’ve discussed with Fabio the requirements we have for him,” Wolves manager Gary O’Neil says to the Shropshire Star. “A regularity in his work style. He must exhibit a genuine intensity throughout the week and exhibit remarkable consistency in his on-field actions.

“Having more ball security while maintaining my goal threat ability… Playing in the toughest league in the world, he is a youthful number nine. So it’s normal that I give him these things to help him get better.

“In the past few weeks, Silva has shown a great deal of willingness. He has put in more effort than he did at the beginning of the season and is making a sincere effort to get in.

Even after years of experience, Silva is still young.

Rangers put forth a valiant effort in their match against St Johnstone, but Cyriel Dessers’ man of the match award likely said it all.

As the highest-rated player by Rangers News, the summer acquisition not only won a penalty but also scored the first goal. However, on a different night, he could have easily scored a few more.
