Rangers bid for Hearts star mooted after Clement reveal – David Tanner Ibrox News

After Michael Beale’s summer recruitment attempt proved to be largely fruitless, the 28-year-old Scot has once again been suggested as a potential target for the Light Blues.
Tanner wrote: “Hearing Philippe Clement mention that Hearts had “a few interesting players” is interesting.

“The manager of the Rangers expressed his appreciation for Lawrence Shankland, stating that he has known the Hearts striker since Beerschot, Belgium.

“Should he submit a bid in January?”

There is a tendency to link suggestions of a move for Shankland with the seeming lack of ambition linked with looking within the SPFL to strengthen at Ibrox.

However, given that Beale invested a substantial amount of money to bring in Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, Danilo, and Abdallah Sima on loan this summer, and the team still failed to live up to expectations, it’s possible that the solution is readily apparent to those who make decisions at the team.

While Danilo’s progress has been halted by a facial fracture, Sima is starting to show signs of real success. Meanwhile, Lammers has virtually gone unnoticed in his Glasgow debut, while Dessers has suffered under the weight of expectation.

Shankland, who returned to Scotland last season and scored 27 goals altogether—24 in the SPFL—but his two goals in the league this season, out of a total of six in all competitions, aren’t as spectacular.

Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst both failed to stick with Celtic domestically, so the club might make worse decisions than bringing in a top-flight scorer from Scotland.

Additionally, while Shankland did score three out of four in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, raising doubts about his ability to compete in Europe may be worthwhile, given that the current Gers roster isn’t exactly lights out on the continent.

It would be easier said than done because Hearts won’t just give him up, but if Clement was watching Shankland before accepting the position, an approach might come in the winter window if Lammers and Dessers’ situation doesn’t improve.
