After the Daily Record referred to Nicolas Raskin’s goal for Rangers in their 4-0 victory against Hibernian as a “Rocket,” Chris Sutton retaliated.
The statement is taken from the post that revealed Sutton’s team of the week, which featured three Rangers players: Nicolas Raskin, James Tavernier, and Abdallah Sima.
Sutton stated that the team was asking supporters if they agreed with his decisions, but he insisted that the tweet’s phrasing was inaccurate and disagreed with the goal’s description.
“Tough choices to make in the Record Sport Team of the Week, albeit it wasn’t a Raskin rocket, do you agree with this team?” Sutton said, quoting the Daily Record’s tweet that revealed his team of the week on his personal Twitter account.
prickly remarks
Sutton couldn’t help but make a little jab at the Rangers. He could not have allowed that to pass without criticising the Ibrox side in some way, no matter how small or insignificant it might have been, as he had named three of their players in his team of the week.
It’s undeniable that Raskin would need to hit the ball well to defeat the custodian, and he did, as he was poised to drive the ball into the bottom corner from a distance of about 25 to 30 yards.
Before the custodian could get to that location, the ball fizzed around the floor and into the bottom corner with plenty of support behind it. If Sutton is right and this isn’t a “rocket,” then what are the requirements to qualify the strike as such?
Is it necessary for the ball to enter the upper corner? Perhaps it struck the bar en route in? It seems odd to criticise the player in this way, especially because it’s obvious that he thought it was adequate.
