Rangers to sell multiple big names in January; expert says

Rangers will let go of a few summer additions in January since they “obviously” weren’t good enough.

Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie, in an exclusive interview with Football Insider, criticized Michael Beale’s summer additions while applauding Philippe Clement’s early Ibrox career.

Despite signing players like Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, and Danilo during a busy summer transfer window, many of the signings by the Gers have fallen flat.

As revealed by Football Insider (1 November), Rangers are plotting up to three new additions this January.

Clement has improved the Gers’ performances on the pitch despite the subpar squad and remains unbeaten since the Belgian’s arrival at Ibrox, including their recent 5-0 league victory against Dundee.

McAvennie claimed it’s “a fact” that Beale’s recruitment was insufficient and guaranteed some will depart this January.

“The manager is key. He’s got three results, great results. I don’t think they’ve played well but you can see there’s something,” he told Football Insider.

“There’s a lot of players there that Beale brought in and they’re not good enough. Anyone with half a brain could see that.

“So this manager’s come in and he’s given them a chance. He took Dessers off at halftime [against Hearts]. Clement’s walked into this club, can’t do anything until January, but I guarantee there will be players there who get moved on and players come in.

“Every manager wants to bring their own players in, but there’s a lot of players there that shouldn’t be there.

“That’s not me being horrible to anyone, it’s just a fact. There was no football guy in there [during the summer] to tell them what he thinks. Beale thought they were good players, and they’re not obviously.

“They might become great players, but at the moment they’re not good enough. You need to walk into Celtic or Rangers and hit the ground running, and these boys haven’t done it.

“You can’t blame the board.”
