Rangers currently have no intention of appointing Norwich City recruitment chief Stuart Webber as their new sporting director, according to Football Scotland.
The Scottish outlet provided the update on its website on Thursday morning [2 November] amid previous suggestions Rangers were eager to snap up Webber
The Scottish Sun [October 29] had already claimed that Webber was scheduled to leave Norwich in the following two weeks, so the Gers were on high alert.
“The Sun claimed Webber was one man on the wanted list at Ibrox, but Football Scotland can reveal there has been no approach made and that the interest is not there at the moment,” stated Mark Hendry in a story for Football Scotland on November 2.
This season, he has also been mentioned as a possible Leeds United head of recruitment alternative.
On the surface, Webber’s connections make sense because he seemed to be leaving Norwich and the Gers, who have been looking for a replacement for Ross Wilson since the player’s April move to Nottingham Forest, have a lot of needs.
Rangers lost a lot of ground because Michael Beale was given the go-ahead to supervise transfer activity in the summer, and things have gotten much more convoluted since the Englishman left last month.
Another name purportedly on the Light Blues’ list of targets is Brighton and Hove Albion manager Sam Jewell [Daily Record, October 14]. Nevertheless, the hunt for Wilson’s replacement goes on for the time being.
Naturally, a decision must be made quickly because teams are already preparing for the January transfer window.
Rangers run a greater chance of getting lost the longer this search lasts.
