Rangers view: Philippe Clement hands potential transfer boost as exit-linked

After Ridvan Yilmaz, who is linked to leaving, made an admission to Rangers, Philippe Clement might have received a significant boost in his transfer.

The Turkey international said on Twitter that the Gers’ 3-0 victory over Hibernian on Wednesday, January 24, was a “perfect team performance” at Easter Road.

The 22-year-old added that he is “so proud” and that it “feels so good” to play for the Light Blues despite previously looking likely to leave Ibrox in the January transfer window.

There has been growing speculation surrounding the left-back’s future this month after several clubs are believed to have been plotting a move to sign him.

It appeared as though Galatasaray were leading the race after the Ajans 1905 journalist Kadir Cetincali reported on Wednesday that the Turkish club has reached an agreement with Yilmaz and there has been “no problem” in that regard since last week.

But he added that the Gers haven’t taken a “step back” in their demands over receiving a cash payment to allow him to leave Ibrox this month.

That could potentially come as a huge relief to Clement after the Turk has nailed down a regular spot in his starting lineup over the past few weeks.

Having set his side on their way towards picking up a massive three points against Hibernian, he’s probably playing the best football of his Gers career since joining from Besiktas in 2022.

If he does decide to remain at Ibrox, then that will mean the Light Blues boss won’t have to dip into the transfer market to find a last-minute replacement before the window slams shut.

With Borna Barisic’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, the Belgian will be looking for some stability in the left-back position.

It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds over the next few days, but for the time being at least, it looks as though Yilmaz’s immediate future could be in Glasgow.
