Rangers youngster wanted by MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps’

The Scottish publication reported on Sunday (17 December) that the Whitecaps are seeking a right-back and are big fans of Devine.

Academy starlet Devine signed a new deal at Ibrox last year to keep him under contract until 2025.

He has only played once this season, in the first round of the Viaplay Cup against Morton, and could be persuaded to leave.

Loan repayment makes sense.

Devine’s major issue is that the man he seeks to depose is captain James Tavernier, who just starts when he is available.

The 20-year-old is capable of playing on the opposite flank, which he did under Michael Beale at one stage, but has not done so this season.

Instead, Devine has been reduced to a spectator role at best, even when the Gers faced a left-back crisis during a recent Europa League match against Sparta Prague.

Devine is still very young, so patience is required, even though he only wants to play matches.

The Gers will not want to lose Devine indefinitely, therefore a loan exit could be approved in January.

Tavernier will not stay at Ibrox indefinitely, so the Gers must keep an eye on the future. It may be prudent to keep Devine on the books in this regard.

In other Rangers news, Gary Keown has praised a Gers player for defying the odds at Ibrox.
