‘We Want’ – Rangers boss confirms another ‘Very Active’ January transfer window

Philippe Clement has confirmed he expects to be “very active” during the winter break as he looks to further strengthen his Rangers squad.

The Belgian has already added Wolves forward Fabio Silva on loan, with the Portuguese making his debut off the bench against Kilmarnock on 2 January.

However, the manager of the Light Blues acknowledged after the team’s 3-1 victory that he will not do so as he assesses additional possible signings with the club’s recruitment team. The players will now take a fortnight off.

“How active?” Clement asked, via Rangers Review (8m 20s). Very active every day, in my opinion, by observing players alongside club members. After that, we’ll see how many things we can get accomplished.

“The things we want, we’re not going to sign 10 players, don’t worry.”

Although Silva was a welcome early addition to a Rangers team that appeared to be lacking in attack, there are still many unanswered questions about this group.

Since replacing Michael Beale as manager, the team has challenged on three fronts and won the League Cup, which is a credit to the manager.

But if Clement is to overcome his first loss against Celtic and turn the second half of the season into a legitimate title race, the playing staff, which was sorely lacking under the previous manager, could use some reinforcements.

Even though Lawrence Shankland has received a lot of attention in the lead-up to the New Year, it might not be financially feasible to sign the Hearts star, even though additional offensive support would be greatly appreciated.

Since most of the recruits from the previous two seasons are still under evaluation, Clement may be hoping to add some reinforcements to his attack and midfield.

Though the manager’s defeat in the Old Firm derby is somewhat worrisome, overall improvements have been positive and he has secured silverware at his first attempt in a manner his predecessor was unable to.

If he is able to gain enough strength this month, there is cause for concern.
