RB Leipzig player sends massage to Man City ahead of Champions League clash

Manchester City travel to Bundesliga outfit Red Bull Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday

Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Emil Forsberg has insisted they can mix it with the best after drawing 2-2 with Bayern Munich.

Just days before facing Manchester City in the Champions League, Leipzig surrendered a two-goal lead at home to the reigning Bundesliga champions. Lois Openda and Castello Lukeba put the hosts in front before Harry Kane and ex-City winger Leroy Sane pegged Bayern back.

Leipzig ultimately blew the chance to leapfrog the German giants, with Benjamin Sesko unable to get on the end of a cross in stoppage time to snatch all three points. Speaking after the game, Forsberg, now into his 10th season at the club, was disappointed but believes the result proved they can hang with Europe’s elite.

“It was a tough game,” the midfielder said. “It’s not always easy to see out a game when you’re 2-0 up at half-time. Bayern are a very talented team and they never stop. We needed to be fully focused at all times.RB Leipzig vs Manchester City summary: score, goals and highlights | Champions League 22/23 - AS USA“However, we also showed that we are a strong team. We need to shift our focus now to the next game against Manchester City and be 100% ready for that.”

Goalkeeper Janis Blaswich was also left gutted by the result but remained focused on Man City in midweek. The 32-year-old got a hand to Kane’s 57th-minute penalty but could not keep the ball out.

“It’s a disappointing 2-2 draw for us in the end because we did extremely well in the first half,” Blaswich added. “The second half was tough, especially because we conceded the equaliser immediately following a corner for us. We cannot allow that to happen.

“I chose the right corner on the penalty but, unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Kane hit it too well. The end of the game was very intense once again. We will now analyse the game and prepare to go again on Wednesday against Manchester City.”
