BREAKING: cut-price fee for star player is revealed as the transfer market heats up#

Tom McIntyre, a center-back for Reading, will only cost Portsmouth £75,000, according to a Reading Chronicle report.

Rumours about possible additions to Portsmouth have intensified during the last few days of the transfer window, and they may not be finished yet. Wigan Athletic’s Callum Lang has joined, Owen Moxon, a star player for Carlisle United, is being watched, and center-back McIntyre appears to be close to joining.

The nominal cost Pompey is expected to pay to acquire the Scottish defender has now been made public by a new report.

According to The Reading Chronicle, cash-strapped Reading is ready to sell McIntyre to Portsmouth for a mere £75,000. The fee was agreed upon prior to the knowledge of director of football Mark Bowen and Royals manager Ruben Selles, underscoring the troubling ownership situation in Berkshire.

Nonetheless, Pompey appears to be poised to profit from the circumstance as they secure a defender with Championship experience at a low cost.

Business takes the initiative
Although Portsmouth leads League One and is in a strong position, their actions in late January indicate they are not content to sit back and enjoy themselves. They’ve already added a few quality players this month.

Matt Macey has returned on a free transfer, and Myles Peart-Harris, who made a great debut against Port Vale, is in on loan from Brentford. Pompey has demonstrated their willingness to pay for additional reinforcement with the addition of Lang and the upcoming contract for McIntyre.

It will take time to see if a deal can be reached, but Moxon would be a true statement signing. Even if the Moxon connections don’t result in a deal, John Mousinho might still be satisfied with their business at the end of the transfer window. Of course, there will be disappointment if that one doesn’t work out.
