The Royals desperately need Dai Yongge’s tenure at Select Car Leasing Stadium to end as soon as possible, and the reports of a takeover falling through are disastrous.
It appears that Rob Couhig was close to closing a deal to take over the club, so this is a huge setback for the organisation.
However, it appears that the Royals are back at the starting line, and there is little chance that a deal will be made anytime soon.
Those who don’t deserve to bear the scars of Dai’s mishandled rule will be impacted by this outcome.
The players have done fairly well in the early going of this season and in the second half of the previous one.
They have undoubtedly been suffering off-field for more than a year, and eventually it will begin to negatively impact performances and outcomes.
Due to their ownership structure, the club was only able to sign one player during the summer transfer window: Chem Campbell, who joined on a short-term loan until January.
This was a major blow because, even with Campbell’s arrival, the wing department still lacks options in that area. Several areas needed to be strengthened, and more options were needed prior to Femi Azeez’s move to Millwall.

Although some journalists consider manager Ruben Selles to be a strong candidate for the position based on betting odds, it doesn’t appear that his connections to Stoke City are genuine.
Additionally, the Royals’ supporters may be able to exhale for the time being as Narcis Pelach appears destined to succeed Steven Schumacher at the Bet365 Stadium.
This won’t cheer people up much in light of the takeover update, but it’s good news at a very depressing moment for the SCL Stadium.
Despite their lacklustre performance against Leyton Orient the previous weekend, the Royals have made a respectable start to the season given how difficult their opening slate of games has been.
Selles can be happy with his work, especially under such difficult circumstances, as he managed to get the best performance out of his team in the games against Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic, and Charlton Athletic.
The Royals’ manager has done a fantastic job; earlier in the season, there was hope for a possible takeover, but uncertainty persisted because a sale had not yet been finalised.
But a man is only capable of so much.
Early in his tenure in Berkshire, he faced intense pressure due to underwhelming performances and ownership concerns, which forced him to field inappropriate questions from the media.
Dai may have moved one step closer to Selles’ departure door by refusing to sell the club to Couhig because he will be tired of the current state of affairs.
With Couhig so close to buying the club, he would have been convinced that a takeover was taking place, but that belief has now been snatched away from him.
After this horrific loss, the former Southampton manager must now rally his team, and it begs the question of how long he will remain in his position.
But one thing is certain: in the upcoming weeks, Selles and the players will have the full support of the fans. In the near run, their unwavering support might be able to keep everything together.
