Reading favourite Nelson Abbey made his long-awaited debut for Greek giants Olympiacos on Sunday, over a month after making the move to Europe.
The 20-year-old was a breakthrough star earlier in the campaign, even captaining his boyhood club on occasion, and became a firm fan favourite during his 31 club appearances.
However, the Woodley local was one of four Academy graduates sold in the January window in an attempt to bring cash back into the club.
Six Greek Super League matches passed before the defender was called upon, starting and featuring for the whole 90 of their 3-0 win over Volos on Sunday.
The England Under-20 international took to social media after his debut, saying he was: “So happy to have finally made my debut for this club.”
Abbey was not the only Academy graduate to impress on the continent, with striker Danny Namaso scoring for Portuguese giants Porto against rivals Benfica.
Known as Danny Loader during his spell with his hometown club, the forward has scored twice for Porto in 15 appearances this season.
