Reading On The Brink After Huge Development

According to a tweet from journalist Anthony Smith, Reading will enter administration this week after a protracted period of uncertainty on their long-term future as a club.

The League One team has already lost four points this season as a result of a disagreement over financial issues with the EFL. This has put them five points outside of safety, and it appears that situation will only get worse.

Reading and Oxford United’s League One match scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed due to multiple international calls-ups. As a result, the Royals won’t play in a league game again until October 21. By then, the team is probably towards the bottom of the standings.

The Royals have had a difficult several seasons, having recently suffered from multiple point deductions and financial fines, and this season has proved to be difficult for Ruben Selles’ team.

The Royals suffered another League One loss on Saturday, when George Moncur scored a very late winner for Leyton Orient to extend Reading’s woeful form. However, Reading did show initial promise when Tyler Bindon drew the side level in the first half, after initially falling behind.

Journalist Anthony Smith confirmed the news regarding Reading on Twitter by posting…‘Heard from a good source that the administrators will be in before the end of the week.’

Fellow journalist Darren Witcoop echoed Smith’s post but also added…

‘As per Anthony Smith it’s increasingly likely that Reading will enter administration at some point this month. Could well be this week. Club will have little choice. Believe talks are continuing with two interested consortiums.’

When Reading next returns to league action, they are likely to be sitting on minus four points, which means they will be at least six points behind Cheltenham Town and approximately 15 points from safety as the division approaches the quarter-mark.

Writer’s View

Reading fans have already experienced a difficult few seasons and sadly it appears as though it is going to continue to rain around the club. The Royals look destined to enter administration and this news also threatens their chances of remaining in League One this season.

January could become the club’s biggest transfer window in history but if they are banned from making signings, the task for Ruben Selles will only toughen.
