The 7 Reading FC players set to leave as a free agent in the summer’

The Royals’ supporters had to wait patiently for results under Ruben Selles after the team had only won three of their first 14 league games.

However, considering the off-field conditions—which included a four-point deduction and the loss of multiple players in January—the Spaniard has performed admirably.

There will probably be more departures in the summer given the club’s financial struggles, especially because some players in the squad are nearing the end of their contracts.

Here, we examine seven members of the starting lineup whose contracts are up for renewal at the conclusion of the current campaign.

1.Tivonge Rushesha

Rushesha had a good trial and signed with the team in the summer.

The Zimbabwean international’s Swansea City contract has expired, making him available.

The midfielder’s time in Berkshire has been restricted to a few appearances thus far because of the play of other players in his position.

2Nesta Guinness-Walker

Guinness-Walker joined the team in the summer of 2022 after leaving AFC Wimbledon.

He has lost favour under Selles and was sent on loan to Stevenage after making a few appearances for the U21s.

Although this left-back is excellent moving forward, his defensive skills are lacking, which means that he may occasionally be fairly abused. It’s likely that the 24-year-old played his last game for the team.

3Sam Hutchinson

Hutchinson, a seasoned midfield player, leapt up to play for the Royals in the Championship the previous season after leaving League One team Sheffield Wednesday.

Due to injury, the 34-year-old was limited to just 12 appearances in the previous season at the Select Car Leasing stadium.

It appears doubtful that he would sign a new contract at the end of the season because he has not been seen much this season.

4Joel Pereira

The Portuguese goalkeeper joined after leaving Dutch side RKC Waalwijk in the summer of 2023

Although he has largely been a reserve player for Reading, he has shown some heroics in the EFL trophy, saving penalties.

The 27-year-old might extend his current contract and has shown to be a valuable backup option for the team.

5Clinton Mola

Mola left German team Stuttgart on the last day of the summer transfer window, having had his contract terminated.

He had been on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship for the 22–23 season, but he only made six appearances and didn’t show much.

Mola is a versatile defender who can play centre back or left back with ease, although he has had trouble getting starts.

6Jeriel Dorsett

After going through Reading’s academy, Dorsett established himself as a League One regular.

The 21-year-old centre back has a tonne of untapped talent and a tonne of first team football experience thanks to his loan stints at Rochdale and Kilmarnock.

The team will wish to hold onto Dorsett after the current season concludes.

7Femi Azeez

Azeez appears to have settled into League One after a few seasons of struggling in the Championship.

Reading will be doing everything in their power to contain the player whose speed and cunning have been giving third-tier defences fits.

Azeez, who also went through the academy, is a highly regarded player at the team.

However, it will be challenging to hold onto him given that the Championship would probably be interested in signing him following Plymouth Argyle’s unsuccessful attempts to get him during the January transfer window.
