According to Football Scotland, Oscar Cortes hopes to arrive in Glasgow this week in preparation for a January transfer to Rangers.
The Lens winger hopes to finish his loan move from Lens this week, with the goal of “dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s” at Ibrox, according to a report on the website [29 January].
It’s understood that the agreement will include a buyout option once his loan at Ibrox expires.
Attacking reinforcements
Since joining Lens in June 2023, the 20-year-old has only made four senior appearances. He moved from Millonarios. Despite taking few risks, he has managed to score a goal and provide an assist in those games.
The majority of his playing time has been for the club’s B team, where he has played 504 minutes and recorded three goals and one assist. His impact as a substitute helped seal Ligue 1 victories over Nantes and Reims.
Not much is known about the young player, but in addition to his natural left-wing position, Cortes can play anywhere in the final third. This season, he has already filled in as a centre forward and an attacking midfielder.
Despite his relative inexperience, Cortes will be a welcome addition at Ibrox given Philippe Clement’s lack of attacking reinforcements. The international from Colombia will be able to pick up tips from people like Rabbi Matondo, Ross McCausland, and most importantly, the position-shifting Tom Lawrence.
It will be hoped that Cortes makes an immediate impact at Ibrox, having already advanced through the ranks at the international level and making his debut for the Colombia national team.
