Clement may have suffered unwelcome Rangers setback former Genk colleague speaks

The 48-year-old delivered a league title working alongside Clement at Genk, but he intends to stay with the Belgian outfit

According to the Daily Record [25 November], De Conde was questioned openly why the Rangers position is uninteresting during an interview conducted in his own country.

“Genk has my allegiance. I’m a Limburger and I adore the club,” he declared. I am familiar with the club’s management. We are a bunch of incredibly aspirational friends.

That is not common in football. Making Genk the largest club in Belgium is still my goal.

De Conde’s remarks follow the Daily Record’s suggestion last week that the Rangers were considering five candidates, including him.

There might only be four candidates on the Gers’ shortlist now that the Belgian is officially out from the running.

Freedman Dougie and Hughes Richard According to reports, Paul Mitchell and Carlos Bocanegra are the two candidates vying to replace Ross Wilson.

It’s been far too long since Wilson’s replacement was sought after, so this is a disappointing blow if De Conde was really a contender.

Nobody is in charge of transfers at Ibrox, and the January transfer market is roughly five weeks away from opening.

It is becoming less probable that a new director would be appointed by December, as Chairman John Bennett recently suggested.

Rangers must act quickly even if they now have to pursue a second- or third-choice alternative.

The team should be commended for taking their time in selecting Clement, who has shown to be the ideal candidate for the position.

That might also apply to this next director, whoever they are, but the post just can’t be empty for very long.
