A former Pompey midfielder is making a comeback to League One, having left Fratton Park three years earlier.
Although Pompey may be hoping to leave Sky Bet League One, one of their former players will be returning after receiving a promotion.
With a 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers, Wrexham secured their spot in the English football third division, marking their first appearance in the division in 19 years. The Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, support the Dragons, who have a Disney+ documentary to their credit. The Dragons needed to defeat FGR, and they did so convincingly.
Elliot Lee gave the score its first goal, then Ryan Mullin added two more after Ryan Innis’ own goal. Jack Marriott completed the scoring after Ryan Barnett joined in, resulting in a convincing 6-0 victory.
Former Pompey player Andy Cannon, who is currently celebrating his second promotion, played 72 minutes in the victory. The 28-year-old joined Wrexham in December 2022 for an undisclosed fee, having previously played for Hull City. This season, he has participated in 33 league games for them and netted four goals.
