Good news: Portsmouth man emerges as favourite to take over Millers

Leam Richardson, the former manager of Accrington Stanley and Wigan Athletic, is the front-runner to take over as Rotherham United’s manager.

After deciding to split ways with Matt Taylor, the Millers are looking for a new manager.

Although he led Rotherham to Championship safety the previous season, he was in charge of a sluggish start to the current one.

Since Taylor’s departure, a number of names, notably former Millers head Steve Evans, have been associated with the position.

Richardson, though, is the clear favourite at 3/1 on the BetVictor list.

He is only ahead of Gary Rowett, who was fired by Millwall, Rotherham’s Championship rivals, last month.

Since Wigan Athletic fired Richardson, he has not had a job.

He has previously worked as Paul Cook’s assistant at Portsmouth and Chesterfield teams.

Rotherham’s manager search has gained some breathing room due to the timing of Taylor’s dismissal.

During the international break, the Millers may take a respite from their busy Championship schedule.

They will play their next game, a Yorkshire derby against Leeds United, on Friday, November 24.

There is an incredible 20-point gap between the two teams, with Rotherham in 22nd position and Leeds in third.
