KEY Rotherham United midfielder Ollie Rathbone will sit out this weekend’s Championship six-pointer at fellow strugglers QPR – but should be back in contention for the Millers’ big survival showdown with neighbours Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday week.
Rathbone suffered a concussion during Tuesday night’s unfortunate 4-3 loss to high-flying Ipswich Town, and he will not be able to go to West London due to regulations involving head injuries.Leam Richardson, the chief of Millers, confirmed that Rathbone would not be participating. Even in the case that he had passed the examinations right away, he would not have been available.
“There is too little time in between games. He ought to be free the next week.
He took a small knock on Tuesday. He wants to practise and play every minute of it, which is why he’s so frustrated. You are aware of his energy levels.
“He is receiving excellent care. In order to ensure his health is acceptable, he needs to pass a few tests. That is the most crucial factor.
“Fingers crossed, he comes through that in the next couple of days.”
Richardson will once more need to consider this when choosing the starting lineup for the game against Rangers, who are now in third place, because some players’ workloads must be controlled owing to health concerns.
“We’ve had to fight with injuries since I’ve been in the building,” he went on. It is still going on.
It’s a little annoying that we still have to control player minutes in February.
“A lot of stuff happened before I came here, so I can’t comment.
We’re addressing it, and we will keep addressing it; as a result, going forward, we’ll be better.
