Rotherham boss Steve Evans on Bolton and ‘tough’ League One

Evans is preparing for his first pre-season back at Rotherham, having returned to the New York Stadium in April following a stint at Stevenage.

The 61-year-old reckons Ian Evatt’s men were unfortunate to miss out on promotion to the Championship and says they will be “wounded” from their defeat against the U’s.

“League One next season will be the toughest it has been,” he told the club’s YouTube channel. “You will have big spending Wrexham.

Bolton will be injured from the playoffs. They should have been promoted, in my opinion, and Ian will be devastated.

Charlton and several of the other giants from Barnsley, who were eliminated in the play-offs, reside nearby. They will believe we are in that mix, but it will also be a very difficult division.

Liam Kelly became the Millers’ sixth summer addition on Friday, capping an eventful start to the team’s summer season. Among the players that have recently joined the Yorkshire club are Jonson Clarke-Harris and Sean Raggett.

Evans continued, “I usually ask the first time I stand in front of a group, ‘How many players in the room have won promotion?'”We are lucky to have many promotion winners in there, and that is a very special ingredient. The boys all stated the same thing: since you have vivid recollections of the past, your next promotion will be the best.

“We have not given up and will continue to make efforts to expand the group. The initial levels of the home are in place, and we are constructing the foundation. It will be difficult because we are carefully selecting who joins our team.
