Rotherham United abruptly cut ties with star

Rotherham United are parting ways with the Scotsman following their relegation from the Championship. They have dropped into League One along with Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town after finishing bottom of the table in this past season.

Lindsay, 28, sees his contract officially expire at the end of June and will become available as a free agent. He has a big decision to make on where to go next as he weighs up his options in the game.

He has recently posted on his X account: “Thank you to everyone that has played a part in my 5 memorable years as a ‘Miller’. Staff, Teammates & fans.2 League 1 promotions and 3 years in the championship, we’ve been able to create special memories together. Wishing everyone involved all the very best for the future. Jamie.”

Lindsay was a tremendous asset to the Yorkshire club when he was signed by Rotherham United back in 2019.

He has made 156 appearances for them across all competitions, contributing eight goals. Under their previous manager Paul Warne, the former Scotland youth international assisted them in moving up from third division twice.

Prior to his move to England, he was on the books at Motherwell before linking up with Celtic as a youngster.

Lindsay never made a first-team appearance for the Hoops, but he did spend time on loan at Dumbarton, Greenock Morton, and Ross County to gain some experience before moving permanently to the latter.

After that, he spent 48 games in the Highlands scoring nine goals before relocating south of the border.

The RRR Podcast claims that Wrexham was connected to him throughout the winter as they pursued promotion from League Two. In the end, he decided not to transfer during the January transfer window to the Racecourse Ground.

Whether the Red Dragons are still interested following their promotion under Phil Parkinson is still up in the air.

What next for Rotherham United?

Lindsay’s exit from Rotherham United frees up space and funds in their ranks to bring in more signings.

Steve Evans’ side are aiming for an immediate promotion next term and have been busy on the transfer front over recent times.

They have brought in striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, defender Sean Raggett and full-backs Joe Rafferty and Reece James.
