Rotherham United interim boss nullify shapes

The Millers were more assured in the second half on Friday night and held on to a 1-1 draw against Daniel Farke’s promotion-chasing side

Rotherham United interim boss Wayne Carlisle has revealed the change he made at half-time to nullify Leeds United after the shape set by Daniel Farke caused ‘uncertainty’.

The Whites went ahead in the sixth minute through Crysencio Summerville and largely dominated the first half. The cushion of a second goal never came though, and the sides went into the break level after a late equaliser from Hakeem Odoffin.

After halftime, Leeds struggled to regain the same rhythm, as Rotherham became more and more dominant in the game. How the Millers were able to contain Farke’s team in the second half was a question posed to Rotherham manager Carlisle following the game.

“We made some adjustments in the midfield,” he said on the Rotherham United website. “We changed the course of the game after halftime, and I believe we did so because we expected something in the first half that went wrong but were unable to deliver the message onto the field.

There were moments when we showed no action. While we urged for patience, the players weren’t to be passive. However, that was mostly because of their lack of confidence in their shape in the middle of the pitch. After we resolved that in the second half, it seemed a lot more like a Rotherham home game.

“I would have accepted if you had notified us ahead of time that we would receive a point. To be honest, I’m a little unhappy that we didn’t win a little bit more in the second half.

The point left Leeds seven points behind the leaders Leicester City and Ipswich Town, with both sides given the chance to extend their lead to double figures on Saturday.
