Ex-Rotherham United man made favourite to land job with Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City’s League Two rivals
David Artell, a former defender for Rotherham United, is the clear frontrunner to manage Grimsby Town, Bradford City’s League Two opponents.
The Mariners chose to cut Paul Hurst about a month ago, but they haven’t yet announced a replacement.
They are now two points behind fellow struggling teams Bradford and Doncaster Rovers in 21st place in the fourth tier.
Artell has been made favourite to fill the Grimsby vacancy by BetVictor, with a price of 2/5.
When Artell was a player, he played defence and started out with his hometown team, Rotherham.
He went on to become a much travelled player, playing for the Gibraltar national team as well as teams like Mansfield Town, Morecambe, and Wrexham.
After taking over as Crewe Alexandra’s manager for five years, Artell was fired from the position in 2022.
Since then, he has been unemployed, despite being a favourite among bookmakers for a number of positions.
He is clearly the favourite at 2/5, well ahead of Shaun Pearson, who is the second favourite.
David Healy, at 25/1, and Justin Cochrane, at 16/1, are outside contenders.
