Ryan Cresswell, a former defender for Rotherham United and Sheffield United, has resigned from his position as manager of Sheffield FC to become the manager of Matlock Town.
The 36-year-old, a native of Yorkshire, rose through Sheffield United’s youth ranks but had little opportunity to play in the first team at Bramall Lane.
In the EFL, he managed to find minutes for teams like Rotherham, Northampton Town, and Fleetwood Town. During his two stints with the Millers, the defender made 47 appearances and scored nine goals.
Three years ago, he made the transition to coaching, having enjoyed a spell at Parkgate before taking the helm at Sheffield FC, an eighth-tier team. But he’s moved on to Matlock after almost three years at the Home of Football Ground.
Cresswell will now manage in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, which is the seventh rung of the English football ladder, marking a step up for him.
Nicky Law, another former Miller who resigned as the Gladiators’ manager earlier this month, has been replaced by him.
“I’m really excited and looking forward to the challenge,” Cresswell declared. I was drawn to the position because it presented me with the opportunity to advance personally and try out really well for step three football. In addition, the club’s goals of moving up the league and beyond aligned with my own.
“It was encouraging to see the team win on Saturday because a win boosts the spirits of any club, both on and off the pitch, and will aid in the remaining tasks.”
